First, go to Build mode (a button below the mini-map in the right side of the screen). Select the item you want to upgrade. A window will appear and it will show you what resources you need for the upgrade. If there are enough resources in your inventory, the “Upgrade” button will be active – the item will be upgraded as soon as you click the button.
